Announcement from Family Service CEO, Randal Rucker

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

After much thought and consideration, I have decided that my time has come to retire as CEO of Family Service of Greater Boston. I can tell you this was not an easy decision and one that I discussed, at length, with my family. Our passionate and driven board of trustees have put into motion a process to select an interim CEO, assemble a transition team of Trustees and to proceed with a strategic planning process that will take Family Service into a new era of program quality, collaboration, and expansion.

I came to Family Service in 1996 because of the mission and service to Greater Boston. Together with staff, trustees, supporters, foundations, advisors, and friends, we have accomplished much to retain our critical mission of helping children, youth and families become self-sufficient. We moved from Beacon Hill to Jamaica Plain to be closer to individuals who would benefit most from our behavioral health and community-based programs and to deepen and expand our community collaborations with schools, early education centers, universities, community health centers, hospitals, places of faith and state agencies. We have met and overcome unprecedented challenges in the human services sector, general economy and political, policy and funding changes.

We have been incredibly successful at getting to the root cause of what ills the children, youth and families we serve. We have helped people reach their full potential and I will be forever grateful to have had even a small part in their success. The credit belongs to the clients themselves and to the incredible staff at Family Service, who put their clients needs above their own and look for innovative solutions to all of life's challenges.

We have maintained core programs in behavioral health, while adding complimentary programs for parenting, fathers, young children, adolescent boys of color, children, adults and families coping with trauma, teacher support, children and families faced with autism, and residential support for young parents. We are very proud to be continuing this work into our 180th year!

I am grateful and honored to have led this important agency for nearly 19 years and I am confident that it's legacy will continue for many more years to come. This service has been my distinct pleasure and I thank each and every one of you for your work, collaboration, and dedication to our clients, our mission, Family Service and to each other.

All my best,
Randal
